Mirabai Ceiba is an internationally acclaimed duo where two different worlds meet:
Markus Sieber, a musician born in East Germany, and Angelika Baumbach, a
vocalist and multi-instrumentalist of Mexican and German heritage, raised near
Mexico City. Their music weaves together delicate strings, harp, piano, and subtle
vocal interplay, blending elements of world, folk, chamber, and devotional traditions.
Their name carries symbolic meaning: Mirabai was a Hindu poet and devotional
singer, while the ceiba is the sacred tree of Latin America. Like this tree, their music
has deep roots and far-reaching branches, embracing cultures and people across
the globe.
Since their debut album Flores (2004), Mirabai Ceiba has become an important
voice in contemporary spiritual and world music. Their album Ocean (2008) was
recognized
as Best Vocal Album of the year, A Hundred Blessings (2010) received
an L.A. Yoga Award, and Awakened Earth (2011) became an international
bestseller. In 2015, Sevati reached No. 1 on the iTunes World Music charts in more
than 13 countries and remains one of their most celebrated works.
Mirabai Ceiba perform mantras, traditional songs from various cultures, and original
compositions in English and Spanish. They draw inspiration from poets such as
Rumi, Nezahualcoyotl, and other mystical literary traditions. Their listeners around
the world are captivated by pieces like \u201cOceano,\u201d \u201cLa Luna,\u201d \u201cHar Mukanday,\u201d
\u201cGobinday Mukanday,\u201d \u201cBreath of Love,\u201d and many others.
The duo has performed in renowned venues worldwide\u2014from the shores of Buenos
Aires to concert halls in Tel Aviv, from Mexico City\u2019s Teatro de la Ciudad to national
stages in Warsaw, Moscow, and Tallinn. Their concerts are luminous, heartfelt
gatherings where music becomes a universal bridge between cultures.
